Carbon Footprint for Mercury Capture from Coal-Fired Boiler Flue Gas

چکیده

Power production from coal combustion is one of two major anthropogenic sources mercury emission to the atmosphere. The aim this study analysis carbon footprint removal technologies through sorbents injection related 1 kg flue gases. Two sorbents, i.e., powdered activated and coke dust, were analysed. assessment included both direct indirect emissions various energy material needs life cycle including mining transport, production, transport power plants, into results show that at average concentration in processed gasses accounting 28.0 µg Hg/Nm3, gases required 14.925 Mg 33.594 respectively. However, whole for amounted 89.548 CO2-e·kg?1 Hg, whereas dust value was around three times lower 24.452 Hg. Considering relatively low price its impact on GHG emissions, it can be found as a promising alternative commercial carbon.

Using bromine gas to enhance mercury removal from flue gas of coal-fired power plants.

Bromine gas was evaluated for converting elemental mercury (Hg0) to oxidized mercury, a form that can readily be captured by the existing air pollution control device. The gas-phase oxidation rates of Hg0 by Br2 decreased with increasing temperatures. SO2, CO, HCl, and H2O had insignificant effect, while NO exhibited a reverse course of effect on the Hg0 oxidation: promotion at low NO concentra...

Enhanced elemental mercury removal from coal-fired flue gas by sulfur-chlorine compounds.

Oxidation of Hg(0) with any oxidant or converting itto a particle-bound form can facilitate its removal. Two sulfur-chlorine compounds, sulfur dichloride (SCl2) and sulfur monochloride (S2Cl2), were investigated as oxidants for Hg(0) by gas-phase reaction and by surface-involved reactions in the presence of flyash or activated carbon. The gas-phase reaction between Hg(0) and SCl2 is shown to be...

Bench- and Pilot-Scale Studies on Mercury Removal by Potassium Iodide in Coal-Fired Flue Gas

Mercury (Hg) is a toxic air pollutant with coal-fired utility plants being the largest anthropogenic Hg emission source in the United States. The extent that Hg can be removed from power plants using conventional air pollution control devices (APCDs) is significantly affected by Hg speciation in flue gas. Oxidized Hg (Hg) is preferable to elemental Hg (Hg) in that Hg is less volatile and solubl...

PM2.5 and Mercury Emissions From a High Ratio Fabric Filter After a Pulverized Coal Fired Boiler

Large efforts are made to limit the emissions of fine particles and mercury from coal combustion. Modern fabric filters are certainly an alternative for an efficient removal of fine particles and offer also the option to inject adsorbents to improve the removal of mercury. In this study the particle size distribution was measured after a modern design high ratio fabric filter (HRFF) located aft...

Development of silica/vanadia/titania catalysts for removal of elemental mercury from coal-combustion flue gas.

SiO2/V2O5/TiO2 catalysts were synthesized for removing elemental mercury (Hg0) from simulated coal-combustion flue gas. Experiments were carried out in fixed-bed reactors using both pellet and powder catalysts. In contrast to the SiO2-TiO2 composites developed in previous studies, the V2O5 based catalysts do not need ultraviolet light activation and have higher Hg0 oxidation efficiencies. For H...
